Update

Late last week we got the small car's remote hooked up to the parallel port, and some sketchy software controlling it.
We then bought the big car and attempted to run that on the electronics lab's dc power supplies - with mixed sucess. The big car drains about 5-6 amps at 7.2 volts when accellerating on its back (ie. no force against the movement!).
Today (Wednesday week 2) we mostly wasted the day. FICT IT people are a bunch of fucks, and the parts department don't have our parts yet and can't give us an estimate of when they will arrive either.

Project Start

Yesterday was the first day of project work.

Aims for the day were:

  • Get a website / blog going

  • Get a parts list prepared and authorised

  • Start looking into the control of the car
Everything went pretty much to plan, there was a lot of discussion on the parts list as we were not 100% on whether we would be able to purchase items at wholesale prices which had a large impact on our budget. In the end, after speaking to the parts purchasing guy we found that we could get parts at wholesale which gave a lot more buying power.

By the end of the day, parts were ordered, Graham and Jason had also brought components from Jaycar to start building a parallel port breakout box.
